The Local Echo

Local news from public records, city by city

Privacy

The Local Echo collects as little as possible. This page explains what, why, and for how long. Questions or requests (to see or delete your information) go to our privacy contact at newsroom@thelocalecho.ca.

Reading the site: we count page views, 30-second reads and shares to learn which topics readers find useful, together with the name of the website that sent you here (for example a search engine). This uses no cookies and stores no name, email or IP address. Our web server keeps a technical log for 14 days with the last part of each IP address removed.

Other services your browser contacts: only the development map pages load map pictures from OpenStreetMap; that service receives your IP address when your browser asks for them. Fonts and everything else come from this site.

Newsletter: if you sign up, we keep your email address, the city you chose, and when and how you agreed, as the law requires. You can unsubscribe with one click in every email. Sign-ups that are never confirmed are deleted after 30 days; the record of an unsubscribed address is deleted after 24 months.

Sponsored real-estate box: if you send that form, your name, email and phone go to the licensed real-estate professional named on the box, who stores them in a customer database (GoHighLevel, a service based in the United States), only to answer your request. Enquiries sent from the Advertise page go to the same database, to answer them. Messages from the Contact page stay with our newsroom and are never passed to advertisers.

We delete form messages after 24 months and reader counts after 13 months. Backups are kept for 14 days.
